Yonkers, New York – On July 20, 2021, the New York State Police arrested Cesar L. Zapata Ramirez, age 28, of Bronx, NY, for Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision, a class D felony.

Initial investigation suggests at approximately 8:20 p.m. on July 19, 2021, Michael P. Pereira, age 30, of Bronx, was southbound on Interstate 87 operating a 2018 Honda motorcycle, and attempted to pass a 2015 Honda Pilot on the right.  Cesar Zapata Ramirez, operating the Honda Pilot, began exiting the Interstate onto Exit 4 from the middle of three lanes as Pereira attempted to pass.  Pereira subsequently struck the rear of the Honda Pilot.  After the collision Zapata Ramirez left the scene without rendering aid or reporting the incident.

Despite life-saving-techniques employed by arriving emergency medical technicians, Michael P. Pereira, was unfortunately pronounced deceased at the New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital.

State Police Investigators with the assistance of the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center were able to identify and later arrest Cesar L. Zapata Ramirez.

Zapata Ramirez is scheduled to be arraigned before the Yonkers City Court on July 21, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
