Four Danbury Vape Shops Busted for Illegal Sales and Violations

Danbury, Conn. — A joint enforcement operation on Tuesday led to significant action against four vape shops in Danbury. Authorities cited the businesses for a range of violations, including selling tobacco to minors, distributing marijuana products, and failing to comply with labor laws.

Multi-Agency Operation

The inspections were carried out by the Danbury Police Department in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, the Department of Revenue Service, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Officials said the primary goal of the operation was to curb underage tobacco sales, stop the distribution of cannabis products with THC levels beyond legal limits, and address outright illegal marijuana sales — including oils, flower, concentrates, and edibles.

The crackdown was largely prompted by complaints from community members, particularly parents who reported that their children were purchasing THC products and vape devices from local shops.

Shops Found Noncompliant

During the inspections, authorities seized more than 40 pounds of marijuana-related products across four locations:

  • Cloud House I (Newtown Road): Failed a compliance check after selling tobacco to an underage buyer. Officers also confiscated 9.2 pounds of marijuana products, including edibles, concentrates, and oils.

  • Cloud House II (Mill Plain Road): Although the business passed the compliance check, it was shut down by the Department of Labor for violating labor law requirements.

  • CT Smoke House (Mill Plain Road): Failed compliance and was allegedly found with 20.65 pounds of THC products. The shop was also accused of openly advertising cannabis for sale on its premises.

  • Star Rose Smoke Shop (Mill Ridge Road): Failed compliance and was caught with 12.23 pounds of THC products. The business was also issued a Stop-Work Order for labor law violations.

Prior Enforcement Efforts

Danbury police noted that this is not the first time local vape shops have been caught breaking the law. Previous compliance checks have led to the seizure of several thousand dollars’ worth of marijuana and other contraband. Authorities said repeat violations remain a serious concern for public safety, especially for young people.

Mayor Alves Responds

Following the raids, Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves praised the collaborative effort between local police and state agencies. He emphasized that the illegal actions of some businesses put the city’s youth at risk.

“It is disappointing to see repeat offenders continue to violate the law and endanger our community members,” Alves said. “I am proud that we have strengthened our zoning regulations to prevent any new vape shops from opening. Under our current rules, new establishments are prohibited.”

Alves stressed that while the raids were a step forward, the fight against illegal sales is ongoing.

“Yesterday’s raid makes clear that there is still more work to be done, but we remain steadfast in our commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of our community,” he added.

A Clear Message

With multiple shops now shut down and thousands of dollars’ worth of illegal products seized, authorities believe the operation sends a strong message to businesses attempting to skirt the law. City leaders say they will continue to pursue strict enforcement to ensure compliance and safeguard young residents from harmful and illegal substances.
