Pawling Boy Scouts score big for the Pawling Resource Center!
Each year local Boy Scout Troop 34 participates in the “Scouting for Food” service project. In early spring, the Scouts place bags on homeowners’ doorsteps throughout Pawling. Each bag has a typed page explaining the project and asking for donations of non-perishable food items. A week later, the boys and parents return and collect the filled bags and bring them to the Pawling Resource Center. The bags are weighed, items are sorted, checked for expiration and shelved. The whole process takes about three hours, with scores of boys and parents scurrying busily in all directions, until all the food is shelved and ready for distribution.
Residents say they look forward to getting the bags each year, and save up items they can donate.
The Pawling Resource Center is located right next to the John Kane House in Pawling, and operates a food bank, along with many other services it provides the community. This year the Center benefitted from over 1500 lbs. of food from the food drive! Many thanks to all of the hard work by the Scouts and their families, and the generosity of the people of Pawling.
