Pawling Rotary’s 9th Annual Golf Outing…The Hottest Ticket in Town!

By Susan Stone

Aside from the temperatures soaring past ninety degrees on Monday, June 7th at the Quaker Hill Country Club, thirty-five golfers enjoyed the day as they played on this beautiful course, the heat and perspiration, not-withstanding. Everyone eagerly participated in the “Beat-The-Pro” challenge, with proceeds donated to The Roger Smith/ Pawling Rotary College Scholarship Fund. Play ended a bit sooner than expected, as storm clouds moved in late in the day and lightening, thunder and rain brought the sizzling temperatures down, though humidity and comradery remained high.

A pre-play bar-b-que lunch and sumptuous dinner for 75 guests was provided by Rich & Cassie Parente and The Barn at Quaker Hill, as all gathered to honor one of Pawing’s treasured citizens, John Thomes. Mr. Thomes was presented with a special gift from Rotary club membership thanks to his outstanding service to the community over many years. Additional prizes, courtesy of club golf pro Tony Vos, were disseminated among the golfers. Kudos to Gary Latrell, Facilities Supervisor and Course Superintendent, who made sure the day ran smoothly for Rotary club members and their guests. Vinny’s Deli donated a beautiful basket of treats for a lucky raffle winner, and other donations of goods and services were auctioned off, assuring the Rotary Club’s success in raising all that was needed for funding scholarships for two deserving Pawling college bound seniors, as well as five scholarships to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy). Additional funds raised will underwrite other important educational opportunities for community youngsters.

Lori Johnson, outgoing Rotary president, welcomed guest and introduced event chair, John Ammaturo, who thanked everyone who made the day a success, and introduced Mr. Thomes, who spoke briefly.

Event sponsors whose generosity was noted included: Ingersoll Auto of Pawling, Grade Industrial Supply, McHoul Funeral Home, Meager and Meagher, Westchester Modular, McGrath Realty and Sheriff Butch Anderson, along with donors Ed and Jane Lynn.

Pawling Rotary is a service organization affiliated with Rotary International, whose local mission is to support Pawling community youth. Inquiries about membership may be directed to John Ammaturo at 845-855-3010. Additional information may be found on the club website: pawlingrotary.org.
