Obituary, Joan E. Britton

Joan E. Britton, 80, formerly of Patterson, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at her residence in West Coxsackie, NY.
Born at home in Patterson on September 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Murphy) Macartney.  Joan graduated from Carmel High School and went on to beauty school in Mount Kisco and became a hairdresser; she worked at several local beauty salons before opening her own salon in the Brewster-Patterson area.
Joan loved reading, knitting and needlepoint, and antique collecting.
She is predeceased by many siblings, but she is survived by her last sister, Elizabeth, and brother-in-law, Morgan Pulver, of “Tamarac” FL;  she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Joan was a “devoted daughter, sister and aunt, and friend to many”.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 9th at 10 AM at Pawling Cemetery, Pawling.
Because she loved to read, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Pawling Free Library, 11 Broad Street, Pawling, NY 12564.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.
