Obituary

Harriet Patricia Spucches, a resident of Catskill, NY, formally a longtime resident of Millerton and Astoria NY, a loving mother of 7 children, passed away after a brief illness at the age of 82 on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

Harriet was born to Harry and Lyla (Sunnuck) Welsch. She graduated high school at the early age of 16 with honors and a vocational degree as a hair stylist. In June of 1956 Harriet married Jack Stella. They had 4 children together, Debra, Suzanne, Jack & Kathleen.

Harriet had a love for all animals. She worked as a Veterinary assistant. She had a passion for Show Dogs, particularly German Shorthaired Pointers. She raised and trained champions. She participated in dog shows and field trials. She was awarded numerous trophies for her prize-winning dogs. It was there she had met her second husband, John Spucches.

Harriet and John were married in October 1970. They had 3 children, John, Laura and Mark. They lived and worked on the family farm “The Ring Neck Lodge” a game preserve in Millerton, NY.

Harriet will be lovingly remembered by her 6 children, Debra Moseley and her husband, Harry; of Rodman, NY, Suzanne Stella and her partner, Patricia Olsen, of Leeds, NY, Kathleen Martinolich and her husband, John of Freeport, NY; Laura Spucches and her husband, Atindra Mahajan of West Stockbridge, MA; two sons, John Spucches and his wife, Heather, of Poughkeepsie, NY and Mark Spucches of Catskill, NY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Harry, Gianni, Hannah, Katahdin, Mark, Brynn and Max; five great grandchildren, Richard, Faith, Olivia, Harry and Sophia. Along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Harriet was predeceased by a son, Jack Stella.

Calling hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor William Mayhew. The interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains, NY.
