Obituary, Victor J Parent Jr.

Victor J Parent Jr 94, of Northfield, VT, died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Wednesday, May 25, 2021. Born on April 2, 1927 in Colchester, VT, and at a young age, moving to NY where he lived the majority of his life in Dutchess County. He was the son of the late Victor J Parent Sr and Ruby (Cole), Victor left school and entered the Army in 1945, serving for three years in Germany during the reconstruction. He ultimately settled with his family in Millbrook, NY where he resided for nearly two decades. During that time, he worked at Rosedale Nurseries in Mabbettsville, NY and pursued similar positions throughout his life. He was happiest when tinkering in his garage, tending his lawn, garden and in general, being outdoors. In later years, he lived in Staatsburg, NY where in 2006, he received the “Good Citizen Award” from the Staatsburg Association for Village Efforts. He relocated to Northfield, VT last year.

He is survived by his three sons, Le-Roy and his wife Ursula of Dielheim, Germany; Roland and his wife Linda of Hudson, FL; Keith Sr and his wife Sherry of Athol, NY; his two daughters, Kathleen and her husband Christopher Shepherd of Troy, NY; Gail Parent of Northfield, VT who died later the same day from injuries she sustained in the same accident and her partner Jonathan Spencer; his brothers, Theodore of Pawling, NY; Richard of Dover Plains, NY, and a sister, Vera and her husband Richard Kipp Jr of Rhinecliff, NY. He is also survived by ten grandchildren (Petra, Amy, Keith Jr, Brian, Ashley, Courtney, Deanna, David, Gerard & Jeanne), nineteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife and Le-Roy’s mother, Marianne E. Hieber; second wife, Margaret E. (Joyal Stevens) Parent; his longtime partner, Evelyn Peterson; his infant son David; a granddaughter Christina Parent; a great grandson, Devon Shepherd; brothers Arthur, Charlie, Raymond; sisters Eva “Hattie” Coon, Ruby “Dolly” Reardon, Lucy Kutchma and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A brief graveside service and burial will be held at one p.m. on Saturday June 12, 2021 at Nine Partners Cemetery at the junction of NY state highway 343 and Church Street, Millbrook, NY. Immediately following, the family will greet visitors to celebrate Victor’s life at the Millbrook Village Firehouse at 20 Front Street, Millbrook, NY. All social distancing guidelines and correctly worn masks are to be strictly adhered to.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Victor’s life, to a charity of their choosing.
