State police are investigating a fatal shooting in the town of Tusten

The State Police Bureau of Investigation (BCI) Liberty are investigating a homicide in the town of Tusten. On May 22, 2021 at approximately 12:20 p.m. troopers responded to a residence on Lake Country Lane for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival troopers located Anthony J. Williams, 24 from the town of Fremont with a gunshot wound. Troopers immediately began life saving until EMS arrived on scene. EMS personnel took over life saving measures. Williams succumbed to his injuries while EMS was working on him.

Troopers arrested John Rhodes, 81 of the town of Tusten and charged him with Murder 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, both felonies. He was arraigned in the Town of Tusten Court in front of Town Judge Padu and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.

State police were assisted by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.

This investigation is ongoing.
