WASHINGTON (7News) – New details have emerged about a shootout that rattled residents in the upscale Palisades neighborhood of Northwest Washington early Friday morning.
Gunfire on Chain Bridge Road
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), officers were dispatched around 3:05 a.m. to the 3000 block of Chain Bridge Road NW following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police discovered a man suffering from an injury to his cheek. Initial concerns suggested the man had been shot, but doctors later determined that his wounds were not caused by a bullet.
The victim was working as a private security guard for a residence on the block at the time of the incident.
Confrontation with Suspects
The security guard told investigators that he had noticed a gray sedan pull up in front of the property. Moments later, three men exited the vehicle. The guard confronted them, and according to his account, the driver of the sedan pulled out a handgun and opened fire.
The security guard returned fire, engaging in a brief exchange of gunfire with the suspects. After the shootout, all three men jumped back into the sedan and fled the scene before officers arrived.
Injuries and Medical Evaluation
Emergency responders transported the security guard to a nearby hospital for treatment. While initially believed to be suffering from a gunshot wound, further medical evaluation revealed that his facial injury was not caused by a bullet. Authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of the injury, but they confirmed it was not life-threatening.
Exclusive Neighborhood on Edge
The Palisades, one of Washington’s more exclusive neighborhoods, is known for its quiet streets and upscale residences. The early-morning gunfire has left many residents unsettled, highlighting growing concerns about safety even in areas that typically report low levels of violent crime.
This incident comes amid heightened security across the nation’s capital, with a federal law enforcement presence already in place following President Trump’s controversial order to deploy additional forces in Washington, D.C.
Ongoing Investigation
Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the shooting and are working to identify the suspects involved. MPD has not yet released surveillance images or suspect descriptions, but detectives are reviewing possible footage from the neighborhood.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the gray sedan to come forward.
