Why is the Pawling Library kicking off its year-long centennial celebration with a New Orleans Jazz band? Because in 1921, when the library received its Charter from the New York State Board of Education, what was known then as “Dixieland Jazz,” was all the rage all over the country! In the early twentieth century, the “Great Migration” of talented Black and Creole musicians who left New Orleans to seek a better life in the north, brought this vibrant musical genre to Chicago, Philadelphia and New York.

And what better way to celebrate their one hundred years of service to the community than to shout out the excitement with this “brassy” introduction to a thrilling year of programming and events brought to you by the generosity of the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust.

While you’re celebrating with them, dance on over to the information tent where they will be sharing their program schedule for the year along with lots of information about the library expansion. Make sure to check out the centennial swag (all proceeds will help us build the new children’s wing, The Kids Corner.) Mosey on over to the food tent for hotdogs and lemonade.

Or, just tap your toes to the sensational music of the Big Noise Brass Band, a raucous group of musicians from New Orleans and around the World who have shared the stage with the who’s who of New Orleans musicians.

Come for the fun! Come for the music! Come for the Food! They will be celebrating rain or shine!
