Obituary, George H. Bell, Sr.

George H. Bell, Sr., 86, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Valerie Manor in Torrington, CT. Mr. Bell was an Occupational Therapist Assistant at the Wassaic Developmental Center for 35 years, retiring in 1988.

Born on November 12, 1934 in South Portland, ME, he was the son of the late Arthur R. Bell and Masie (Adams) Sargent. Mr. Bell proudly served in the US Army Reserves from 1952-1962. On July 16, 1967 in Gouverneur, NY he married Jane Hyde who survives at home. Mr. Bell was an avid painter. He owned and operated the Art Gallery at Hunts Country Furniture in Wingdale, NY.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Bell is survived by a son, George H. Bell, Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Dover Plains, NY; a daughter, Sherry Alberts and her husband, CB, of Dalton, MA. He is also survived by two brothers, Lee Bell of California and Stanley Sargent of Willimantic, CT; two sisters, Anna Parkes of Farmington, CT and Marion Davidson of Woodstock Valley, CT; three grandchildren, Rachel Vallone, Chas Alberts and Ashley Alberts and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Bell was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Bell and Kenneth Bryant.
