Obituary, Spedito “Speedy” Costa

Spedito “Speedy” Costa, a lifelong resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on April 18, 2021 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Speedy was a union carpenter for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 203 in Poughkeepsie.

Born in Sharon, CT he was the son of the late Frank and Rose Costa. Speedy attended Dover Schools. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On January 9, 1955 in New Rochelle, NY, he married Josephine Auricchio who survives at home.

Speedy was a life member of the Chestnut Ridge Rod and Gun Club. He was proud of his 68 years of dedicated service as an active member of the Dover Lions Club. He also served two terms on the Town of Dover Zoning Board. Speedy was an avid fisherman and a true outdoorsman.

In addition to his loving wife, Speedy is survived by three daughters, Karen Towle and her husband, Edward, of Dunedin, FL; Jo-Ellen Kingston of Dover Plains; and Randi Costa and her husband, David Nelson of Sharon, CT. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Vanessa Mullin, Bill Kingston and Jamie Kingston and three great-grandchildren, Maud Mullin, Ben Mullin and Charlotte Kingston.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover Plains.
