FEEDHV SEEKING FOOD DONORS AND VOLUNTEERS
Community Food Rescue Network Connects Food Donations to Food Assistance Programs
HUDSON, NY – APRIL 12, 2021 — FeedHV is the Hudson Valley’s community food network that rescues, harvests and processes food that would otherwise go to waste and redirects it to food assistance agencies. In 2020, FeedHV was able to redirect over 100,000 pounds of food donations to agencies with food assistance programs in the Valley—the equivalent of 86,000 meals. FeedHV operates in Putnam, Sullivan, Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Columbia and Greene Counties.
The FeedHV network consists of: food donors (restaurants, farms, institutions, and retailers), feeding agencies (which run soup kitchens, food pantries, affordable housing centers, senior centers and group homes) and food transporting volunteers. Food donations can be agricultural products, dairy, shelf-stable food or prepared food left over from cafeterias or events.
Using app-based, ChowMatch technology, food donations are matched with nearby agencies with an assigned volunteer.  Upon registering as a volunteer, individuals indicate their geographic and other preferences so they are only notified about appropriate food runs within those constraints when they are available.
FeedHV is currently seeking additional food donor organizations as well as volunteer food runners to sign up and participate in serving their neighbors in the Hudson Valley.
FeedHV is a free, low-commitment, highly rewarding way to give back to the community by cutting down on food waste and addressing local hunger. The program is administered by the Hudson Valley AgriBusiness Development Corporation located in Hudson.
