Obituary, Mike Edward Roake

Mike Edward Roake, 70, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at his home in Dover Plains. Mike was a union sanitation truck driver for Industrial Waste in Montrose, NY.

Born on October 2, 1950 in Peekskill, NY, he was the son of the late John Henry and Dorothy (Maynard) Roake. Mike was a member of the Teamsters Local Union #813 in Long Island City, NY.

In addition to being an avid Yankees fan, Mike enjoyed camping, classic car shows, and card nights, but mostly spending time with family and friends, enjoying life.

Mike was also his grandchildren’s number one fan when it came to supporting their sporting or school events. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and was so proud to recently enjoy spending time with his new great grandbabies.

Mike is survived by three daughters, Donna Mendez and her husband, German, of Dover Plains, NY; Brenda Mendez and her husband, Roberto, of Millerton, NY and Michelle Roake and her life partner, Jim McDermott, of Wingdale, NY; two brothers, James Roake of Orlando, FL and Steven Roake of Albuquerque, NM and two sisters, Susan Wood of Danbury, CT and Rose Ann Wilkerson of West Haven, CT.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Britney and Laura Mendez, Marissa, Ashley, Justin and US Navy E3, Dustin McDermott and Kelly Rogers; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Castillo, Harper Rogers and Savanah Emerson; several nieces and nephews; Thomas, Jason and Kori Wilkerson, Ernie, Dorothy, Kelly, Chris, Kyle, Michael Wood, and Jeffrey, Wade, Vicki, Stephanie, Jessica Roake.

Mike is also survived by his former wife, Joyce Coffey of Dover Plains. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Roake.

Mike will be sadly missed by his many friends at the Tally-Ho Community, a place he was so proud to call home. Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains.
