Obituary

Barbara E. Caruso, 89, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Bethel Health Care Center in Bethel, CT. Mrs. Caruso was a bookkeeper for several businesses in Connecticut and New York. She later worked at Sharon Hospital in Orthopedics with Dr. Clark and volunteered at the Hospital Gift Shop for 25 years.

Born on January 31, 1932 in Stamford, CT she was the daughter of the late George and Ellen (Simochko) Butkovsky. On May 23, 1953 in Stamford, CT she married Pasquale Caruso who predeceased her on September 27, 2008.

Mrs. Caruso was a member of the Dutchess County Shrine Club, Cyprus Temple Lodge in Hopewell Junction, NY. She was also a member of the Rip Van Winkle Hillbilly Clan #87.

Mrs. Caruso is survived by two daughters, Diane Judson and her husband, George, of Wingdale, NY and Debbie Emerson and her husband, John, of Dover Plains; two sons, Patrick Caruso and his wife, Joanne of Sandy Hook, CT and John Caruso and his wife, Theresa, of Dover Plains and a sister, Mary Malizia of Stamford, CT. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Justin Emerson, Nikki Leinert and Nicholas, Alexander and Paige Caruso and six great grandchildren, Matthew and William O’Brien, Molly and Mason Leinert, Emmy and Jace Emerson and a great great daughter, Lydia O’Brien. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Caruso was predeceased by a brother, George Budd.

There will be no calling hours. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover Plains, NY, Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners International, C/O Dutchess County Shrine Club, 27 Hannay Lane, Glenmont, NY 12077.
