Obituary, Inez Wyman

Inez Wyman longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed peacefully at her home on February 5, 2021. She was 104.

The daughter of Arden and Maude Day, Inez was born on January 23, 1917, in Rhinebeck, NY. She graduated Rhinebeck High School in 1935, where she had been a standout athlete on the girls basketball team. Her talents resulted in induction into the Hall of Fame at the Sports Museum of Dutchess County. She was a lifelong fan of women’s collegiate basketball and could be found many days watching on tv from the chair in her sun porch.

On February 22, 1941, Inez married Elmer Wyman, of Dover Plains. She became a key partner in her husband’s businesses and together they operated the Dairy Queen, Wyman’s Garage, Foothills Motel and Dover Touchless Car Wash. Her husband passed away in 1996.
In addition to her work with her husband, Inez was a charter member of the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary. During World War II, she was also employed at the magnesium plant in Wingdale, NY.

In addition to many who knew and loved her, Inez is survived by her brother, Arden Day, Dover Plains, NY; her son, Richard Wyman, and his wife Susi, Kent, CT; her grandson, Tyler Wyman, Dover Plains, NY; her granddaughter, Kate Leto, and husband, Brian, Niskayuna, NY; great grandsons, Wyatt and Carson Leto, Niskayuna, NY; and Zackery Stramm and wife, Gwendelynn, Stanfordville, NY; and nieces, Pat Smith, and husband Charles, Coxsackie, NY; and Linda Parsons, and husband, George, Feura Bush, NY.

Calling hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thom Fiet officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains.
