Obituary, Warren G. “Windy” Wilcox

Warren G. “Windy” Wilcox, 86, a lifelong resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Wilcox was a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Town of Dover Highway Department for 37 years, retiring in 1986.

Born on July 28, 1934 in Dover Plains, NY he was the son of the late Richard and Mary (Murphy) Wilcox. Mr. Wilcox proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On May 11, 1958 in Wingdale, NY, he married Nina Gray who survives at home.

Mr. Wilcox was known for his jokes and caring for people in the community. After his retirement he worked for the Helena Share Organization delivering means and gifts at Christmas. Mr. Wilcox was also an avid gardener and a life member of the Chestnut Ridge Rod & Gun Club in Dover Plains. He was also a life member of the VFW Post#5444 in Dover Plains.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Wilcox is survived by a son, Michael Wilcox of Dover Plains and two daughters, Elizabeth Ornsby and her husband, Michael, of Dover Plains and Sandra Broidrick and her husband, John, of Hamilton, NY. He is also survived by three sisters, Jeanette Smith of Dover Plains, Frances Black of Ancramdale and Joan Robinson of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael Zimlinghaus, Ashley Ornsby Berggren, Rebecca Stickles, Jonathan Broidrick and Joanne Broidrick Wright and twelve great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Mr. Wilcox was predeceased by six brothers, Richard, John, Raymond, David, Eugene and Wesley Wilcox and three sisters, Alice Boschelli and Hilda and Mable Ashby.

Calling hours will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thom Feit officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains.
