obituary, Virginia Gaglio (Petracca)

Virginia Gaglio (Petracca) died Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home in Brewster, NY, due to natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Salvatore Gaglio.  She leaves behind her sons Timothy (Cinzia) & Matthew (Diane) and her daughters Johanna & Priscilla; her grandchildren Alexandra (Evan), Joseph, Claudio, Jacob (Annalisa), Gabriel, Timothy, Nicholas, Rachel, Peter, and her great grandchildren Cora and Finn.

Virginia is survived by her youngest sister, Glorianne Schaumloeffel.

Born in Manhattan, New York, on the lower East Side, Virginia was the eldest of four (4) daughters born to Joseph & Angelina Petracca.

She was known as “V from Avenue B”, which is how her husband Sal often referred to her.

Virginia had a passion for Interior Design and Colonial Williamsburg and without any formal training, transformed her homes into what others assumed was created by professionals.  She had a vision and could manifest that into something tangible.  She called it “imagination”.  From this, it was no surprise her talent moved to watercolor painting, crochet, and needlepoint.

As a young adult before she was married, she had a calling to be a missionary, for orphans.  She loved children.  Her heart went out to any child that needed love and attention.  Ultimately, upon meeting her husband, Salvatore, her mission became her home and her family.

While raising her family, she continued to serve others by counseling young children at camp, teaching Sunday School, and hosting women’s prayer meetings at her home.  She did this all as “unto the Lord”.  Everything she did came from her heart.

Virginia was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 Woman.  Her dedication to her family and her faithfulness to God was unwavering.  Her core strength was her nurturing kindness to all who had the privilege to know her.

Her Bible was very precious to her, and in Virginia’s memory, donations may be made to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 3504, Poughkeepsie, NY  12603.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.
