Margaret R. Powers, a resident of Patterson, NY for over 40 years, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Putnam Ridge, Brewster at the age of 91.
Born in Yonkers, NY on November 5, 1929, she was one of five children born to Charles and Mary (Phair) Vera. She married Harold V. Powers on May 22, 1949 in Yonkers, NY and they were married 52 years when he passed away on September 9, 2001.
Margaret preferred to be called Peggy and always had a smile on her face. She worked in customer service for various publication companies, including The Daily News and Readers Digest.
Peggy loved going to the beach, reading, and playing Bingo and she never passed up a trip to Atlantic City. She was also an avid fan of the NY Football Giants, the NY Mets, and the Brooklyn Dodgers.
She is survived by her son Bryan and wife Christina Powers of Danbury, CT and daughters Karen Mary Powers of Patterson, NY and Barbara Powers Canoni of Wellesley, MA; five grandchildren, Kristin Carroll & Kara Dominguez and Kyle, Sean, & Trevor Powers; two great-grandchildren, Jason Carroll and Abigail Carroll; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brother James and sisters, Helen, Betty, and Mary.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, December 11th at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling from 5-7 PM; masks are required and “social distancing” observed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at St. John’s Church, 39 East Main Street, Pawling, masks required and “social distancing” observed. Burial will follow in Quaker Hill Cemetery, Pawling.
