Susan Benkard
Susan P. Benkard, 81, of Millbrook NY and most recently residing in Lakeville CT, passed away on November 30th at Sharon Hospital. After a 10 day rapid decline and alone in the hospital because of Covid, she was able to die peacefully, finally with her daughter by her side.
Suzy was born to Clarence and Ellen Marie Peterson on May 16th, 1939 in Saginaw, Michigan. She earned her degree at the University of Michigan in the early 60’s where she met her husband J. Philip Benkard (also deceased).
She is survived by her daughter Elise Benkard in NY, her son Lanier Benkard in Woodside, CA, and by her 5 grandchildren on both coasts.
Suzy was fiercely independent, filled with love, and always there with a kind word to support her friends and her family. She was a Mother of Great Danes, an entertainer, an avid gardener, a brilliant tennis player, rider and swimmer. She was smart and witty with a mischievous sense of humor that will be deeply missed.
