Sherman Chamber Ensemble Keeps the Music Playing

JAZZING IT UP”

Sherman Chamber Ensemble Keeps the Music Playing

This Thanksgiving season brings new twists to old traditions – and a favorite tradition for the Sherman Chamber Ensemble and audiences is the annual “Jazzing It Up” concerts. This year audiences can see and hear their favorites perform in a virtual concert right from the comfort and safety of their homes beginning at 4 pm on Saturday, November 28.

Pianist Ted Rosenthal joins a most talented group of accomplished New York musicians including Thomson Kneeland (double bass), Chris Parker (drums), Susan Rotholz, (flute) and Eliot Bailen (cello) in an exciting program where the classics meet jazz with a special Holiday set in addition to works by Piazzolla, Rosenthal, Schuman and others.

Artistic Director Eliot Bailen said the Ensemble is “preserving the feeling of community and a sense of continuity and normalcy as we do our best to keep SCE’s traditions alive in the face of the pandemic.”

The combination of Rosenthal, one of the leading jazz pianists of his generation, and Parker, called an ‘unsung hero of the music biz’ will have audiences jumping in their seats,” said Liba Furhman, Executive Director of the Sherman Chamber Ensemble.

Leonard Feather of the Los Angeles Times said, “Rosenthal is a pianist of rarest skill, weaving rapid single note lines that span out into rich chordal patterns, parallel octaves and hints of the blues.” And Nate Chinen of the New York Times said, “There aren’t many modern jazz pianists more dexterous than Mr. Rosenthal.”

Dan Bilawsky of allaboutjazz.com wrote of Parker, “Over the past four decades, he’s worked with everybody from the Brecker Brothers to Miles Davis and Laura Nyro to Lou Rawls, taking a genre-blind approach to drumming that continues to serve him well. As a sideman, he’s made his mark time and again with a who’s who of music giants.”

On-line tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased online at www.SCEmusic.org For more information call 860-355-5930.
