LAGRANGE, N.Y. — A 30-year-old Lagrange man is behind bars after state police executed a search warrant at his home and discovered a significant stash of drugs, firearms, and other contraband.
Search Leads to Major Seizure
On Wednesday, investigators from the State Police Troop K Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET) carried out a warrant search at a residence on New Hackensack Road. The operation resulted in the recovery of seven firearms, multiple types of illegal drugs, and drug-related equipment.
Authorities reported finding:
-
82.8 grams of cocaine
-
119.6 grams of crack cocaine
-
21.4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms
-
2.8 grams of assorted pills
-
Digital scales used for drug packaging
-
$405 in cash believed to be tied to drug sales
The discovery pointed to what police described as clear evidence of drug distribution activity.
Charges Filed Against Suspect
The suspect, identified as Cody Gilmore, 30, faces multiple charges. According to state police, Gilmore was charged with:
-
Two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, including one count with intent to sell
-
Seven counts of criminal possession of a weapon
-
Criminal possession of stolen property
Authorities noted that some of the weapons recovered were unregistered and at least one was believed to be stolen.
Held in Dutchess County Jail
Following his arrest, Gilmore was arraigned and placed in the Dutchess County Jail. Officials have not released information on whether bail was set or if additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Ongoing Investigation
The State Police said the raid and arrest were part of an ongoing effort by the VGNET unit to combat drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession in Dutchess County. The specialized team focuses on dismantling networks tied to gangs, narcotics distribution, and violent crime.
Authorities have not indicated whether others may face charges connected to the case, but investigators emphasized that the seized quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine represented a serious public safety threat.
Community Impact
Local officials praised the work of the enforcement team, highlighting the dangers posed by the combination of narcotics and illegal firearms. Law enforcement leaders stressed that seizures of this size are critical in preventing violent incidents often linked to drug activity.
Residents in the Lagrange area expressed concern but also relief that the operation took place. “It’s scary to think something like that was happening so close by,” one neighbor said. “But I’m glad the police took action before anything worse happened.”
What’s Next
Gilmore is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. If convicted, he could face lengthy prison time given the severity of the charges, particularly those involving drug distribution and illegal weapons possession.
The State Police urged anyone with information related to drug or gang activity in the area to come forward, reiterating their commitment to keeping Dutchess County communities safe.
