Rep. Delgado Visits 9/11 Flag Display in Stanford

STANFORDVILLE, NY—Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) visited the Town of Stanford to view the Fire Company’s display of 2,978 flags honoring the lives lost in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The Congressman was joined by town Supervisor Wendy Burton and Stanford Fire Company member Evelyn Seipp.

The memorial includes 343 red flags representing firefighters, which are arranged to depict the World Trade Center. Within the towers are 72 blue ribbons for police officers. This visual is flanked by American flags honoring the lives of civilians lost on that fateful day. In the center of the hill is a post donning a fireman’s helmet and jacket with the number 39, a tribute to the Stanford Fire lieutenant Dennis Gilhooly, who died in December of health issues relating to his service at Ground Zero.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers at the Stanford Fire Company who prepared a deeply moving tribute to those we lost on September 11, 2001. These flags beautifully display the depth of this tragedy and the heroism of our first responders who rushed into harm’s way to save lives,” said Rep. Delgado. “This moving community memorial reinforces the feelings of unity and purpose that resonated throughout our nation in the weeks and months following the attack. We are stronger than those who seek to defeat us, and we will confront our future challenges as Americans, together.”
