Obituary, William A. Morrison

William A. Morrison, a long-time resident of Pawling, NY passed away Monday, August 24, 2020 at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut.

He was born in Pawling on April 21, 1927 to Dr. Milnor B. Morrison, Sr. and Eva (Ryan) Morrison, and was married to Eileen Williamson, also of Pawling, on December 28, 1954.  After residing in New York City and Ridgefield CT, he and his wife returned to Pawling where they built a home on Quaker Hill.

Bill attended Canterbury School in New Milford, CT, and at the end of his graduating year enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WW II.  He attended Dartmouth College in the V-5 program, after which he earned his BA from the University of Denver.  He worked as a salesman for the J.C. Penney Company and Reeves Soundcraft early on, then the Mosler Safe Company and Leek Building Products before starting his own business as a manufacturer’s rep.

In recent years, Bill loved riding his recumbent tricycle with his wife of 65 years, especially along the beautiful Harlem Valley Rail Trail.  He was also an avid fisherman, patiently teaching the sport to his children and nephews who commemorated him in a song called “Uncle Bill”.  He was a skier who       imbued his love of the sport to extended family members with many a winter trip to the mountains.

Bill was a gentleman and a “gentle-man”, who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife Eileen; his three children; Peter of Castleton, NY; Lisa Lapin of West Brookfield, MA, and Lincoln of Burbank, CA; his grandson James R. Morrison of Castleton; and his brother, James R. Morrison of Colorado Springs, CO.  Three siblings predeceased him:  Elaine (M) Porter; Jane (M) Weinman; and Dr. Milnor B. Morrison, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:   The Pawling Resource Center; Danbury Hospital; or  The Harlem Valley Rail Trail.
