Obituary, Arthur Henry Christgau, Jr.

Arthur Henry Christgau, Jr., a resident of Pawling for over 30 years, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020, at Stamford Hospital, Stamford, CT at the age of 71.

 

Formerly of Pleasantville, NY, he was born in Covington, VA to Arthur H. Christgau, Sr. and Mary Loraine Keith.  Art enjoyed golf and he loved socializing with people, especially his late-night talks that went on for hours.

 

Art owned and operated the former Pawling Tavern, and later worked along-side his son, Ben.

 

He is survived by his son Benjamin Christgau of Pawling and his daughter, Jessica Christgau of Ossining, NY; his two granddaughters, Hailey Christgau and Jayda Byfield; and his sister, Carole Oldenburg of North Carolina.

 

Friends may pay their respects Thursday, August 13th from 4-8 PM at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling.  Masks are required, and “social distancing” will be observed.

 

A funeral service will be held Friday at 12:30 PM at Christ Church on Quaker Hill, Pawling.  Masks and “social distancing” will also be required.  Burial will be at the family’s convenience.

 

In lieu of flowers, an education fund is being established for his granddaughters.
