Obituary, Ellen Dorinda Winter

Ellen Dorinda Winter of Poughquag, NY passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY at the age of 74.

Born in Carmel, NY on April 6, 1946, she was one of four children born to Frank and Gloria (Odell Roth) Christian.  She graduated from John Jay High School in 1964 in Cross River.  She attended Berkeley Business School in White Plains, and then attended one year at Fredonia University.  After college, she worked as a secretary in NYC and was a transcriptionist in the medical field.  She later worked at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center, Wingdale and retired from St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie where she worked in quality assurance & control.  Dorinda was the organist for Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pawling for many years.

Dorinda was very active with her four children, James, Jeff, Kenneth, and Ellen.  She was a cub leader for the scouts and coached T-ball, softball, and flag football.  She enjoyed watching football, baseball, and NASCAR; she also enjoyed gardening.

She was loved and admired by many.

She is survived by her children, James & Jeff VanAnden and Ellen Denkinger; four granddaughters, Gabrielle, Jennifer, and Caroline VanAnden and Hailey Denkinger; grandsons John Winter and Nathan Traver; and great-grandson Kaiden; siblings George and John Winter and Ruth Hagen; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Kenneth, who passed away May 23, 2020.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 11 AM at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Route 22, Pawling, NY.

Burial will be private under the direction of the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.
