Dutchess County Emergency Operations Center

Wednesday, August 5th, 2:00 PM UPDATE

This afternoon, County Executive Marc Molinaro held a conference call with local municipal leaders, County officials from the Public Works and Emergency Response departments, and representatives from Central Hudson and NYSEG to discuss restoration efforts from the impacts of Tropical Storm Isaias:

Central Hudson is currently reporting 37,056 outages and NYSEG is reporting 13,197 outages across Dutchess County, one of the largest impacts since Superstorm Sandy. NYSEG is estimating approximately 50 percent of outages should be restored by tomorrow. Central Hudson restoration times have not yet been provided, however full restoration is expected to take multiple days, possibility into the weekend. Both utilities have brought in mutual aid and contract crews to help expedite restoration efforts.

Due to limited availability and high demand, ice, dry ice, and bottled water distribution sites are closed for today and both utilities are working to establish additional distribution sites for tomorrow.

Dutchess County 911 Communication Center dispatched over 1,100 calls between 7am on Tuesday, August 4th to 12am on Wednesday, August 5th.  The majority of the calls were reports of downed trees and power lines. Residents are reminded that calls to report outages (including cable, internet and power) should be directed to their local utility service provider.  Reports of downed wires, particularly live and sparking, should be reported to 911 as these are life-safety emergencies.

Roadways throughout Dutchess County continue to be impacted with downed trees and wires. Dutchess County Public Works highway crews continue to work in coordination with Central Hudson and NYSEG to clear roadways as quickly as possible.

Dutchess County Parks and Trails have also been impacted by the storm. Wilcox Park is currently closed due to downed trees and wires. Parks staff is out assessing damage and cleaning up other County parks and trails. Park and trail users should expect sporadic closures while clean up takes place and are advised to stay away from areas where crews are working for safety.
