831 signatures delivered to Pawling Town and Pawling Village Clerks’ offices for Pawling local government consolidation.

At 10:30 this morning volunteers and witnesses submitted a petition which contains in excess of the number of valid signatures required by the New NY Government Reorganization and Citizen Empowerment Act.
The signatures were witnessed by over 50 registered voters from every neighborhood of the Town and Village of Pawling.
If certified by the Town and Village Clerks in the next ten days, the Town Board and Village Board will choose a date for this proposition to appear on the ballot for both Town and Village residents.
If the measure passes by a majority of voters in both the Village and Town, Pawling is automatically eligible for a New York State grant to conduct a consolidation study by an independent accounting / consulting firm in 2021.
That study is made public and the voters get to decide again in another election whether to proceed with the consolidation.
This is a historic day for Pawling and for the democratic process.
