Harry Wellington Nichols, Jr., of Pawling, NY, died peacefully surrounded by family at his daughters’ home in Wingdale, NY on July 8, 2020, where he was receiving loving care in his final days. He was 80 years old.
Harry was born on February 7, 1940 in Brockton, MA, son of the late Harry W. and Ida Nichols. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1958, and continued his education at Northeastern University, receiving his bachelor’s in civil engineering in 1963.
In June of 1963 at the age of 23 he married Constance Elaine Doane, and together they raised 4 daughters.
Harry was a civil engineer and the owner of his own business for decades, Harry Nichols Engineering, located in Putnam Lake, NY. Harry’s career spanned over 50 years, and in 2015 he officially ‘retired’, but continued to work on several smaller projects in is spare time.
Mr. Nichols enjoyed being outdoors whether he was deep sea fishing, crabbing, skiing, or camping, you could always find him outside. Harry was the father every daughter wished for, he was loving, kind, funny and caring. If you needed anything, he would always lend a hand.
Mr. Nichols is survived by his beloved wife Connie, his loving daughters; Catherine Huffield and her husband Rick of Yorktown Heights New York, Donna Underwood and her husband Frank of Hartselle Alabama, Jennifer Mohammed and her husband Karl of Pawling New York, and Heather Nichols of Wingdale New York, his 8 grandchildren; Nicholas (Arianna), Sabrina (Liam), David (Hein), Melissa (Alec), Eric, Tiana, Karlo, and Bobby, his great granddaughter Stella, and his sisters; Ethel Jones and Joanne Nichols. He was predeceased by his sisters Carolyn La Pointe and Sandra Nichols St. Benno.
