MLocal students receive Academic Achievement Awards at SUNY Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY (05/13/2020)– SUNY Oneonta recognized more than 60 outstanding students with its 2020 Academic Achievement Awards. One to three students were chosen from each of the college’s academic departments and programs.

In addition to their excellent work in the classroom, students were honored for distinguishing themselves in many ways, including research, activism, mentoring, athletics, involvement in campus activities and volunteerism.

Steven Brundage of Patterson received an academic award from the Music department. For the past three semesters, Steven has been on either the Dean’s List or Provost’s List. He has gained industry experience from volunteering as a production/stage crew member at the Clearwater Festival in Croton-on-Hudson and is a a multi-instrumentalist and a songwriter. Upon graduation, he plans to find employment in a recording studio since he aspires to become a producer as well as a songwriter and musician.

Marcus Garnot of Millbrook received an academic award from the English department. Marcus transferred to SUNY Oneonta from Dutchess Community College, where he served as a peer tutor in the writing center and earned an award for his academic writing. At Oneonta he is pursuing an English degree with a professional writing minor. He was selected to present at New Critics, the English Department’s undergraduate conference, and serves as a copyeditor for the State Times. He has also worked as a paraprofessional helping children on the autism spectrum and volunteered for the Angels of Light Foundation.
