State Police arrest Newburgh man twice in the same morning.

On November 22, 2019 at approximately 1:23 a.m., New York State Police along with Ulster County Sheriffs responded to a domestic incident in the Hamlet of Wallkill. Jamill Smith, age 22 of Newburgh, NY, was arrested for Harassment 2nd degree (violation), Criminal Mischief and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, both misdemeanors.

Investigation revealed that Smith refused to leave a residence during a verbal altercation. The altercation became physical when Smith forced the homeowner to the floor and held the victim down. While the victim was attempting to contact 911, Smith took the phone and prevented them from speaking to emergency services. The homeowner was eventually able to get Smith out of the residence. As he was leaving, he caused damage to the exterior door. Smith was arraigned in the Town of Plattekill Court and released on his own recognizance with a return date of December 6, 2019 at 3 p.m. Judge Maciocia issued a full stay away Order of Protection and served it to Smith.

On the same date, November 22, 2019 at approximately 7:15 a.m., Smith returned to the residence where he was arrested earlier. The homeowner called 911. Troopers spotted Smith peering into the residence through a bedroom window. Smith was arrested and charged with Criminal Contempt 2nd degree (misdemeanor). Smith was taken to Town of Plattekill Court for arraignment. During the arraignment, Smith asked to make a phone call and called the victim’s cell phone in front of the judge. He was remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash and $2,500 bond with a return date of December 2, 2019 at 3 p.m.
