Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced bridge replacement work on Bruzgul Road (CR 21) in Union Vale is complete ahead of schedule and under budget, with the road expected to reopen to traffic today. This is one of several projects road crews are wrapping up as part of a successful 2019 construction season that has included 42 miles of road surface improvements; three bridge replacement projects; and several culvert, drainage and bridge deck rehabilitation projects. County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “We continue to invest in our infrastructure to keep motorists safe, residents connected, and ensure the millions of visitors who come to Dutchess County annually can more easily enjoy all we have to offer. These projects help improve the safety and reliability of our County roads, while being fiscally responsible to our taxpayers. We are grateful to residents and motorists for their patience and understanding during the busy construction season.”

Bruzgul Road project work, which began in May near the intersection of Clove Valley Road (CR 9), included building new, wider bridges and widening the road in between to accommodate the addition of shoulders and improve the safety of the roadway. Road crews will return in spring 2020 for landscaping and final site work. Bruzgul Road averages approximately 1,872 vehicles per day.

Bridge replacement work on Bulls Head Road (CR 19), near the intersection of Depot Lane in Stanford, is also anticipated to be complete and the new bridge and approach is expected to open to traffic by the end of this month. Project work involved realigning and widening Bulls Head Road and constructing a new, wider bridge with shoulders and guide rail installed along the road and the bridge to improve the safety of the approach to the bridge as well as the visibility and safety of the Depot Lane intersection. The removal of the old bridge and final site restoration will be completed in spring 2020. Bulls Head Road averages approximately 1,137 vehicles per day.

Additionally, one of the County’s largest projects of the year, the 15-month reconstruction of Myers Corners Road (CR 93) between All Angels Hill Road (CR 94) and State Route 376 in Wappinger, which began in March, is wrapping up its final major phase, reconstructing and repaving the final 1,500 feet of the 1.5-mile project. That work is expected to be complete by the end of the month and the project will be shut down for the winter with final top course paving and landscape work being done in the spring. This section of Myers Corners Road averages approximately 8,500 vehicles per day.

Other projects that have been completed, or are nearing completion as the 2019 construction season ends, include:

  • 42 miles of road surface improvements, which included paving, chip sealing, shoulder reconstruction, and restriping.
  • Additional intersection improvements at Bruzgul Road/Wingdale Mountain Road (CR 21) and Clove Valley Road/Clove Road (CR 9) in the Town of Union Vale;
  • Bridge replacement on Beekman Road (CR 9) in East Fishkill;
  • Large culvert and drainage replacement projects on Clove Branch Road (CR 29) in East Fishkill and Altamont Road (CR 96) in Washington; and
