Police Respond to Armed Robbery at Takoma Park Check Cashing Business

TAKOMA PARK, MD – Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday evening outside a local check cashing business.

Incident Details

On August 15 at approximately 7:32 p.m., officers from the Takoma Park Police Department responded to reports of an armed robbery at the Check Cash Depot located in the 1000 block of University Boulevard.

According to police, the victim had just completed a transaction inside the business and was walking through the parking lot when he was confronted by two men who exited a gray Hyundai sedan.

Attack and Robbery

One suspect reportedly brandished a handgun and struck the victim before taking cash from his pocket. The second suspect assisted in the theft. Both men fled the scene in the Hyundai immediately afterward.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site by Fire/Rescue personnel.

Suspect Descriptions

Police released the following descriptions of the suspects:

Suspect 1: Male, unknown age, armed with a handgun, struck the victim.
Suspect 2: Male, unknown age, assisted in taking cash.

According to the press release, one suspect was last seen wearing all black, while the other wore black pants and a gray sweatshirt.

Ongoing Investigation

A lookout alert for the suspect vehicle has been issued to surrounding jurisdictions as police continue their investigation. Detectives are working to determine whether the robbery may be linked to other similar incidents in the region.
