Seattle Man Arrested in Issaquah for Vehicle Control While Impaired

Issaquah, Wash. – A 39-year-old Seattle man was arrested after police discovered him asleep in a vehicle with no license plates, surrounded by evidence of drug use, according to the Issaquah Police Department.

Police Discover Suspect in Vehicle

Officers responded after noticing the parked car and found the man asleep inside. The vehicle’s interior contained several items that raised concern, including burnt foil commonly associated with fentanyl use.

When officers attempted to engage the man, he woke up and tried to start the car. Police quickly intervened, suspecting impairment.

Signs of Drug Use and Impairment

According to authorities, the man showed multiple indicators of being under the influence, including slurred speech, delayed responses, clammy skin, and bloodshot eyes. When questioned, he admitted to using fentanyl earlier in the day.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered drug paraphernalia and additional evidence consistent with recent narcotics use.

Arrest and Charges

The man was taken into custody for being in physical control of a vehicle while impaired, a charge that applies even when a vehicle is not actively in motion. Police emphasized that an impaired individual behind the wheel—regardless of whether the car is moving—still poses a significant risk to public safety.

Public Safety Reminder

In a statement shared on Facebook, the Issaquah Police Department highlighted the dangers of impaired driving, even in cases where drivers are found parked.

“This is another reminder of how dangerous impaired driving can be, even when the car isn’t moving,” the department noted.

Police also credited their ongoing collaboration with the King County Target Zero Coalition, an initiative aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries, as part of their efforts to keep local roadways safe.

Broader Concerns About Fentanyl Use

The arrest comes amid rising concerns about fentanyl and other opioids contributing to impaired driving incidents across Washington State. Law enforcement agencies have reported increasing encounters with drivers under the influence of powerful narcotics, heightening risks for both drivers and the community.

Authorities continue to urge residents to call 911 if they see someone who may be driving—or attempting to drive—while impaired.

Looking Ahead

The suspect’s name has not yet been released, and further details about potential court proceedings are pending. Meanwhile, Issaquah Police say they will maintain strong enforcement against impaired driving to prevent accidents and safeguard the public.
