MRC Presents Suicide Prevention Training October 10th

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) of Dutchess County is offering a FREE “Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) – Suicide Prevention Training” training on Thursday, October 10, at 6 p.m., at the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response (DER), 392 Creek Road in Poughkeepsie.  Registration is required.

QPR is a simple three-step technique anyone can learn to help prevent a suicide.  Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to Question, Persuade, and Refer someone to help.  This training is open to anyone but especially helpful for parents, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, police officers, caseworkers, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk for suicide.

The Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County is part of a national network of more than 200,000 volunteers dedicated to supporting public health infrastructure as well as disaster preparedness and response in the community.  Both medical professionals and non-medical volunteers are needed for more information about the Medical Reserve Corps, or to register for this free training, please contact MRC Coordinator Joe Ryan at jryan@dutchessny.gov.  For information on upcoming trainings, visit DutchessNY.gov/mrc.
