Motorcycle accident leads to a Driving While Intoxicated arrest for a Niverville, NY man

On Sunday, September 15, 2019, State Police out of Catskill observed a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling in excess of 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. The motorcycle was heading west on State Route 23 in the town of Catskill. The trooper initiated a vehicle and traffic stop and the operator of the motorcycle failed to comply. The operator turned right onto Cauterskill Road traveling south. The motorcyclist then made a U-turn on Paul Horn Road to travel north on Cauterskill Road. As the operator approached an S-turn on Cauterskill Road, he lost control of the bike and came to rest in a marshy area. The operator of the motorcycle, Michael J. Cristaldi age 34, of Niverville, was taken into custody without incident and uninjured. Subsequent investigation revealed that he was Driving While Intoxicated. Cristaldi was charged with Violation of Probation (felony), DWI-Previous Conviction in 10 years (felony), Flee an Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree (misdemeanor) and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was arraigned on the Village of Catskill Court and remanded to Greene County Sheriffs Office with no bail. Cristaldi has a return date of September 19, 2019, at 3 p.m.
