Worldwide Film Festival ‘Manhattan Short’ Comes To Akin Free Library
Kicking Off The Hilltop Cinema With An Internationally-Renowned Screening

The Akin Free Library’s all-new Hilltop Cinema will be starting off with a bang by being one of several select venues to screen the worldwide premier of the 2019 Manhattan Short Film Festival. Screenings will take place September 28 and 29 at the Akin Free Library, with pre-event reception with refreshments starting at 6pm and the films starting at 7:30pm. Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for which of 10 short films from the US, Germany, France, Iran, and more is the best – to be nominated for an Oscar.
Manhattan Short will unite over 100,000 film lovers at more than 300 exclusive theater venues all over the world for September and October. First founded on Mulberry Street, Little Italy, NYC in 1998 by Nicholas Mason when he mounted a screen onto the side of a truck to show 16 films, it has grown into a celebrated, worldwide phenomenon. The final ten films selected from over 70 countries represent the best short films among 1250 submissions in 2019. It is driven by the philosophy that “it’s the Public who creates the Stars.”As Mason states, “Manhattan Short is a ‘no logo’ experience; It has always been about great films, a great concept, great venues and an appreciative audience. It is that combination that makes MANHATTAN SHORT one of the largest short film festivals in the world today.”Akin’s Hilltop Cinema, the first of its kind in Pawling, NY, will become a centerpiece of cinematic culture in the region. It features a towering screen and high quality film projectors, along with comfortable seats in a picturesque, historically significant building.
