Experts Present a Workshop on Single-Payer Healthcare in the Hudson Valley

POUGHKEEPSIE – On Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 10:30 am, experts and advocates will hold a workshop about single-payer healthcare in the Hudson Valley. The speakers include Katie Robbins (Director of the Campaign for New York Health), Jess Robie (a registered nurse and New York Health Act advocate), Julia Solow, (Campaign Director of the New York Caring Majority), and Conner Brennan (Leader of the Dutchess County Progressive Action Alliance Healthcare Action Team).  Dutchess County Progressive Action Alliance is presenting the workshop, and the event is co-sponsored by the Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Poughkeepsie, Mid-Hudson Valley Democratic Socialists of America, Physicians for A National Health Program, Campaign for New York Health, Hudson Valley for New York Health, and New York Caring Majority.

A majority of Americans say they support Medicare for All (# H.R. 1384, also known as single-payer healthcare). The state-level version of single-payer healthcare, The New York Health Act [A.5248, S.3577], will provide comprehensive, universal health coverage for every New Yorker. Although several 2020 Presidential candidates have a “Medicare for all” program in their platforms and the New York Health Act has passed in the New York Assembly four times, many people are still not familiar with the fundamentals of a single-payer system.

Speakers will present the nuts and bolts of the New York Health Act and its national counterpart, Medicare for All. Attendees will learn how to craft their personal health care stories and use their stories to connect with others about healthcare.  A free lunch will be provided. Speakers will be available for interview.
