East Fishkill, New York – On July 24, 2019, the New York State Police from the East Fishkill barracks assisted the New York State Department of Transportation with an abandoned dog on Interstate 84 in the town of East Fishkill.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., a NYSDOT crew getting ready to mow near mile marker 50 on Interstate 84 heard what sounded like a dog barking in the nearby woods.  They found a young dog tied to a tree that also showed signs of prior neglect.

With the assistance of The East Fishkill Dog Warden, East Fishkill Police Department, and the Dutchess County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals the dog is now being cared for, but the State Police are attempting to determine the circumstances behind the dog’s abandonment.

Included are photographs of the dog, and an image of the roadway where the animal was found.  If anyone has information regarding the possible history of this animal or its owners is asked to please contact the New York State Police at SP East Fishkill (845) 677-7300.  Please reference SJS# 9050766.

All calls can be kept confidential.
