Chatham, New York – On July 24, 2019, the New York State Police from the New Lebanon barracks and Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Jose Antonetti, age 37, of Bronx, NY, for Grand Larceny in the 3rd degree, a class D felony.

On July 23, 2019, the victims received a phone call from a scam artist stating their grandson needed to be bailed out of jail.  The subject claiming to represent their grandson demanded $5,000 in U.S. currency to which the victims agreed to pay in cash.

After paying this fraudulent bail the scam artist demanded another $10,000.  The victims then became suspicious, and contacted the State Police.  An investigation determined Antonetti drove from New York City to the victim’s residence and stole the $5,000 in U.S. currency.

Antonetti was arraigned before the town of Claverack Court, and remanded by the Honorable Judge Brandon to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secure bond.  Antonetti was next scheduled to appear before the town of Chatham Court on July 29, 2019, at 9:00 a.m.
