Pawling Library Receives Local Grant

The Pawling Library has received a grant from the Putnam County Saving Bank that will replace the seating available to children and families in the children’s area. New seating is intended to replace the floor chairs that has fallen into disrepair after years of daily use. The grant will help to make the space more accessible and welcoming to children and their families.
In the last year, the current floor chairs have been used 1,538 times by children and 1,128 by parents in programs alone. This does not include the numerous times they have been used by families who stop in to use the spaces on their own, which happens on a daily basis. Unfortunately, because these chairs experience such high use and are moved so frequently, the set currently owned are in poor condition. They have not been replaced in at least 10 years. Previously, the library maintained the chairs by purchasing replacement parts. However, the company that produces them no longer sells replacement parts for the version in current use, so the chairs can no longer be repaired.
With the grant from PCSB, The Library will purchase 14 new, stackable floor chairs to replace the current out of date model. In addition, some new animal bean bag chairs.will also be purchased, which will offer a fun and comfortable seating option for the library’s littlest patrons.
