Excessive Heat Warning

Excessive Heat Warning issued July 20 at 10:32PM EDT until July 21 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Albany

DESCRIPTION: …EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT SUNDAY…

* Location…Eastern Ulster and Dutchess counties in New York, and Litchfield County in Connecticut.

* Heat Index Values…Up to 110 due to high temperatures Sunday in the mid 90s and very high humidity.

* Timing…through Sunday.

* Impacts…Heat illnesses likely for those spending prolonged periods of time outdoors or in non-air conditioned locations.

Prolonged heat is most dangerous for young children and the elderly. Car temperatures can reach lethal temperatures in minutes. Temperatures will remain very warm and muggy tonight, preventing non-air conditioned buildings from cooling off.

INSTRUCTIONS: An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures
will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids…stay in an air-conditioned room…stay out of the sun… and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
