Nanny Anita Snellman, age 83, of Fairfield, CT, beloved wife of Hassel Larka, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at the Jewish Home in Bridgeport, CT, after recent strokes. Her husband, daughter and Rev. Gramenz were at her side.
She was born in the Bronx, NY to the late Waldemar and Mildred (Ericsson) Tjader on February 21, 1936. Nanny was confirmed at Pilgrim Lutheran and graduated high school in the Bronx, where she enjoyed playing sports. She worked for Con Edison as a Customer Service Representative.
Nanny enjoyed road trips, especially to see her grandchildren, traveling, many times to Finland, dancing, and gardening. With the Bethel Senior Group, she did ceramics, went on trips and to shows, and was a part of their knitting and crocheting group. Evenings by the marina, while visiting with friends, was always a good way to end the day. Nanny would buy large print books to provide to nursing homes when visiting friends and loved to help fill Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.
In addition to her loving husband Hassel, survivors include daughter Anita (David) Dykeman; daughter-in-law Laura Taravella; grandchildren Heather (Ian) Chauncey; Jeremy Gamache; Meghan (Reese) Hansen; Lillia Keyes and Krista Dykeman; great-grandchildren Mya Hansen; Julian and Jonah Chauncey and Reese Hansen. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Nanny was preceded in death by her sons Lawrence (Larry) and Lars Snellman; and sisters Viola Hager and Julia Holmberg.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have provided their love and prayers and to the outstanding staff of the Jewish Senior Services.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 27 at one o’clock at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Christ the King, 14 Pine Dr. Pawling, NY. The Reverend Stefan M. Gramenz will officiate. A reception at the church will follow.
