…EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING…

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued an Excessive Heat Watch, which is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening.

* Location…Mohawk and Hudson River Valleys, southern Taconics, and Litchfield County in Connecticut.

* Heat Index Values…Up to 107 due to temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, and dewpoints in the lower to mid 70s.

* Timing…12 noon Saturday through 8 PM Saturday.

* Impacts…Extreme heat can cause illness and death among at-risk population who cannot stay cool. The excessive heat may quickly cause heat stress or heat stroke.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids…stay in an air-conditioned room…stay out of the sun…and check up on relatives and neighbors.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northwestern Connecticut, and the Hudson and Mohawk River Valleys and southern Taconics of eastern New York.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Hazardous weather is not expected at this time.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

   Excessive Heat Watch.

Hot and humid conditions will develop for Friday, Saturday and Sunday resulting in dangerous heat conditions with heat indices potentially reaching or exceeding 100 degrees during the afternoon hours. Heat Advisories and or Excessive Heat Warnings will need to be issued.

There is a chance of thunderstorms Friday through Monday, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms across eastern New York for Friday afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts possible.
