Fourth of July Crackdown Leads to 25 Arrests for Dutchess County Agencies
During the Fourth of July Crackdown period of July 3, 2019 thru July 7, 2019 members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Town of East Fishkill Police Department, Village Millerton Police Department & Village of Red Hook Police Department conducted Impaired Driving details consisting of Saturation Patrols throughout the county in addition to their regular patrols as well as Joint Agency Sobriety Checkpoints. A total of 25 arrests were made including 23 impaired driving arrests during the period.
These coordinated details were funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation which once again awarded the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program a “Crackdown Enforcement Grant” for the 2018-2019 Crackdown periods. The objective of this continued enforcement grant is to revitalize and enhance the visibility of the STOP-DWI Program through coordinated multi-agency impaired driving enforcement details targeting identified statewide crackdown periods. They also include the assignment of certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) to aid in the identification and apprehension of drivers impaired by drugs other than alcohol.
Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William C. Johnson stated “Participation in the Crackdown Grant project continues to support coordinated law enforcement efforts during high risk Holiday periods that have historically proven to be the most dangerous and deadly on our roadways. The single focus and intent of these efforts is to send a clear message that if you choose to drive impaired in Dutchess County there is an unwavering commitment to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who do. Impaired driving offences are 100% preventable if you simply plan to get home safety.”

Timothy Hempel (20 yoa) of Tivoli, NY was charged with DWI a misdemeanor in the Town of Red Hook.
Darren Villiani (25 yoa) of Beacon, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
Thomas Norbet (45 yoa) of Sharon, CT was charged with DWI a misdemeanor in the Village of Millerton after being involved in a personal injury auto crash.
William Ball lll (28, yoa) of Amenia, NY was charged with DWI & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st both felonies as well as Operating without Court Ordered Ignition Interlock Device a misdemeanor after being involved in a personal injury auto crash in the Town of Dover.
Alejandro Tardella (21 yoa) of East Fishkill, NY was charged with DWI & Aggravated DWI (BAC .18% or more) after being involved in a property damage auto crash in the Town of Beekman.
