Thefts from vehicles

Robert L. Langley Jr.

Sheriff of Putnam County

News Release

Putnam County Sheriff, Robert L. Langley Jr. reports the arrest of two women for a string of larcenies in the Towns of Philipstown, Putnam Valley and Kent.

During the past 3 weeks the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, along with the New York State Park Police, received several complaints from hikers who, upon returning to their parked cars, discovered the cars had been rummaged through and personal items were stolen from within. The property reported stolen consisted of loose change, pocketbooks and wallets containing credit cards, money and identifications. The thefts took place in the Town of Philipstown along the Rt. 9D corridor from Sandy Beach/Stony Point to Breakneck Mountain and in the area of Route 301 through Fahnestock State Park in the Towns of Philipstown, Putnam Valley and Kent.

The stolen credit cards were used for unauthorized purchases made at businesses in Dutchess, Orange and Westchester Counties and the City of Danbury CT. An investigation by Sheriff’s Investigators, using security footage, developed a description of two females and a vehicle they were using.

On 7/10/19 a Sheriff’s Investigator, driving on Rt. 301 through Fahnestock State Park, observed what was believed to be the suspect vehicle parked unoccupied in a parking area of Canopus Lake in the Town of Putnam Valley. The NYS Park Police were notified and assisted with observing the vehicle until two female suspects emerged from a trail and got into the car and started to leave. An investigation by Sheriff’s Investigators and the Park Police determined that the females were the same suspects involved in the rash of the reported thefts in the area. The suspects were arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Dept. for further investigation by Sheriff’s Investigators and the NYS Park Police Detective Division and Patrol.

The suspects arrested and charged by Sheriff’s Investigators and NYS Park Police with multiple counts of Grand Larceny 4th degree, Felonies, were Megan M. Gonzalez, 25, and Kimberly B. Greer, 24, both of Fishkill, NY. Gonzalez and Greer were released without bail pending court appearances in multiple jurisdictions.
