Charges filed after serious Arterial crash

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of David H. Small, age 40 of Croton-on-Hudson NY, stemming from the multi-vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian on the Arterial in the City of Poughkeepsie on 6/24/19.

Mr. Small was detained at the scene and taken into custody a short while later after further interview and investigation. At this time Mr. Small is accused of driving while intoxicated and contributing to the crash which led to one person being seriously injured and extensive damage to multiple vehicles. Preliminary investigation has shown that Mr. Small’s vehicle was westbound on the Arterial when it struck two cars that were stopped/stopping at a red light at Hamilton St, proceeded through the red light and struck a box truck in the intersection, then continued on and struck a bicyclist and pedestrian in the crosswalk.

At this time Mr. Small has been charged with Vehicular Assault (Felony) and DWI (Misdemeanor). After being processed he was arraigned before the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the City of Poughkeepsie Police and New York State Police, and more information may be released as it becomes available.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s Office would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the events leading up to it. As with any criminal case, the charges described above are merely accusations and Mr. Small is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
