STATE AWARDS $343,000.00 TO DUTCHESS DA, CITY POLICE AND SHERIFF

District Attorney William Grady announced today that the New York State Department of criminal justice Services has awarded $343,000.00 to his office, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, theSheriff’s Office and the Dutchess County Probation Department.”

District Attorney Grady stated “this money comes from the Give Grant, which these agencies have been awarded for successful outcomes over the past 10 years. The focus of the Give Grant (Gun Involved Violence Elimination) is to allow these agencies to devote more time to the investigation and prosecution of gun crimes and gun-related violence in the City of Poughkeepsie.”

“Funding supports the salaries of Assistant D.A’s, as well as underwriting the costs of additional overtime hours and crime analysis for law enforcement investigations as well as gang prevention programs.”

Grady further stated: “The focus of the Grant is public safety and this investment by the state has shown significant results. Latest statistics show that during the last 10 years of this program, violent crime has decreased 50%, firearm crimes have dropped 52% and robberies have been reduced by 71%.”

“These results could not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and all of the other participating agencies.”
