Berkshire Farm Center for Youth resident arrested following disturbance

PRESS RELEASE

Canaan, New York – On April 8, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Livingston barracks charged 16-year-old Nija Johnson, of the Berkshire Farm Center for Youth, with Menacing 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, all Class A Misdemeanors.

Troopers were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to respond to the Berkshire Farms School for a reported disturbance. Following an investigation conducted by responding officers, it was discovered that Johnson had damaged school property and threatened to harm school staff. Johnson also menaced school staff members with a piece of broken glass and plastic.

Johnson was arraigned before the Town of Canaan Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail In lieu of $500 cash bail. He was scheduled to return to the Canaan Court on April 9, 2015.
