Traffic stop leads to Heroin arrest

The New York State Police announce the arrest of Kevin Fanning, Age 27, of Liberty, NY, and Christian Somers, Age 17, also of Liberty, NY, for Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, a class B Felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree, a Class C Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a class A misdemeanor.

On Thursday, May 16, 2019, the New York State Police Troop F Community Stabilization Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 Ford Escape being operated by Fanning.  Somers was a passenger in the vehicle.  After further investigation, Fanning and Somers were found to be in possession of approximately 360 bags of heroin.  The narcotics were secretly hidden in the engine compartment of the vehicle.  The baggies contained approximately 10.8 grams of heroin.  Somers was found to be in possession of additional baggies on his person subsequent to his arrest.

Fanning and Somers were processed and arraigned in the Town of Mamakating.  They were remanded to the Sullivan Jail on $25,000 Cash bail, or $25,000 bond.

This was a coordinated effort between the New York State Police Troop F Community Stabilization Unit, SP Liberty BCI, and Troop F VGNET.
